Food packing between wisdom teeth and second molars can result in bad breath and decay starting in the wisdom tooth that can potentially involve the adjacent molar in front.
Pressure from wisdom teeth can cause front teeth to become crowded.
For routine cases, we recommend a consult with our in-house Dentist, whose practice is limited to removal of wisdom teeth.
Each tooth has tissue containing nerve fibres that run through the centre of each tooth, called “root canals”. When this tissue dies from trauma or deep decay, root canal therapy is required.
Root canal therapy removes the dead tissue from the tooth. After numbing the area around the tooth, the tooth is isolated and sterilised to protect it from bacteria in the mouth. A rubber filling is then placed inside the canal/s.
Good oral health is integral to general health. Overall, research data indicates that chronic gum disease may contribute to the development of heart disease, the nation’s leading cause of death in both men and women.
Missing teeth due to gum disease also impacts your ability to chew, crunch and digest your food thus impacting your body’s ability to assimilate nutrition. Because gum disease is a bacterial infection, it can enter the bloodstream and may be a factor in causing other health complications such as diabetes, stroke, poor pregnancy outcomes and respiratory complications such as pneumonia.
The good news is that this can all be reversed with the care of a Dentist!!
One of the most important preventive treatments your child could need is fissure sealants. These are a protective, plastic coating that fills the fissures or grooves in the biting surface of teeth, to prevent the invasion of bacteria that causes tooth decay. These can help protect your child’s teeth for life from fillings.
