Misaligned teeth are more common than we know. And while the extent of the misalignment may vary, a large number of people choose to forego treatment. What most do not realise is that crooked or crowded teeth can lead to several problems over the years, from gum diseases and cavities to jaw strain and more.

Braces work as the ideal solution to straighten teeth that are not in their correct position. And while traditional braces have been in use for long, Invisalign helps straighten misaligned teeth quicker and more comfortably than traditional braces.

What is Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces, designed to appear clear and discrete. These aligners help both children and adults get their teeth repositioned the correct way without the need for metal wires. Invisalign is customised for each patient, depending on the extent of crowding or crookedness of the teeth. A series of clear aligners are customised to apply the ideal amount of pressure needed to position the teeth correctly. The number of aligners needed may also vary for each individual.

With Invisalign appearing almost invisible, you can wear them at all times without anyone ever noticing! This is a prominent reason why individuals have taken to opting for Invisalign in Melton over traditional braces.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign comes with a number of benefits. Here are some of them:

  • Invisalign is removable, unlike other traditional braces.
  • Invisalign is clear in appearance, making it almost unnoticeable.
  • Cleaning your Invisalign aligners is simple and easy.
  • Your Invisalign treatment will not require hours of sitting in the dentist’s chair.

What Does an Invisalign Procedure Entail?

Straightening crooked or crowded teeth cannot be done overnight. The treatment involves a consultation and multiple follow-up sessions where the aligners will be customised. Further, the aligners also need to be replaced often with your teeth repositioning fractionally every few weeks. Here’s what the procedure entails:
Initial consultation at the clinic

In order to create an ideal treatment plan, an initial consultation with our dentist is required. During the consultation, the dentist will assess your teeth and their placement. A few necessary tests will also be conducted along with taking an impression of your teeth. These will help us customise the blueprint for the aligners.
Creating a treatment plan

The teeth impressions taken during your consultation will help our team create a customised plan and show you a 3D preview of what you can expect from the treatment. This will also include identifying the possible repositioning of the teeth and the likely duration of the treatment.
Constructing the custom aligners

Once the treatment plan is in place, the custom aligners are created. These are designed as a series of aligners to fit the different segments of your teeth which then gently exert pressure to move them into the right position over time. As the position of your teeth changes with time, so will the aligners. With the teeth repositioned, the retainers need to be changed every few weeks with ones that are aligned to the new position of your teeth. You are also required to wear the aligners for up to 20-22 hours each day, only taking them off while brushing or flossing your teeth and while having your meals. Follow-up sessions with the dentist are essential every 6 weeks to oversee the progress.
Follow-up and maintenance

While the duration of your Invisalign treatment may vary, you will be required to wear retainers after the treatment is complete to ensure that your teeth remain in the desired position. Biannual check-ups will also keep your teeth in check. You can visit Four Corners Dental for a consultation to help us ascertain your oral health and whether you are in need of dental treatment.
